Folk Brothers Double Again in Tulsa!
Tulsa, OK      Article from DragRaceResults.com

For the second consecutive IHRA National Event, Brian and Nick Folk shared the Knoll Gas Motorsports IHRA Nitro Jam winner circle. At last weekend’s Skull Shine Sooner Nationals Brian Folk, the defending IHRA Super Rod World Champion earned the iron man in Top Dragster competition. Meanwhile his younger brother Nick, the 2003 IHRA Top Dragster World Champion, took top honors in Stock Eliminator. The weekend was déjà vu for the Folk team, as just three weeks prior Nick Folk won Stock while Brian Folk was victorious in Super Rod at the Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals at Knoll Gas Motorsports Park in Martin, MI.

In Tulsa, Nick Folk flexed the muscle of his Wegner Performance Engines LT1 powered Folk Race Cars Camaro, earning top qualifier honors as he has at nearly every event this season. By virtue of that pole position, Folk earned an opening round bye run before dispatching of Bob Sharp and Leon Philpot to advance to the final round opposite Will Carrell. There, despite his worst reaction of eliminations, .061, Folk took a huge starting line advantage and took the win light with a breakout 10.620 (10.63 dial), to Carrell’s .143 induced 12.134 (12.18 dial). Folk, the national Stock points leader entering the event, strengthened his grip on the 2008 World Championship. While the Folk family cannot comfortably “put the champagne on ice” just yet, the win mathematically eliminated every race r currently in the top ten with the exception of former IHRA Summit Super Series champion Rick Baehr.

While Nick Folk was once again working thru the Stock eliminator field, his brother Brian was also making quick work of the Top Dragster category. In his Shafiroff Racing Engines powered Undercover Top Dragster machine, Brian knocked off Rick Wickline, Jerry Story, and Russell Marr to make the final round opposite division 4 standout Steve Evans. There, Folk took a slight advantage on the starting line, with a .019 to Evans’ .028 and coasted to an easy victory when Evans encountered mechanical problems just after the launch.
“It’s been a great couple of weeks,” said Brian Folk. “Nick and I both won at Martin, then I was runner-up in a $50,000-to-win bracket race the next week, and now we both win here! Things just seem to fall into place when it’s rolling your way, and that’s how this month has been. It’s rewarding and humbling at the same time, because you know in this sport the tables can turn in an instant--but we’re definitely going to enjoy the moment!”

In response to his Stock Eliminator points standing and his odds of capturing the 2008 world championship, Nick had this to say. “It’s stupid to say you’re not thinking about it--I’m thinking about it. On paper it looks pretty good, but after last season I’m not going to jump to conclusions. I9 9ll celebrate when it’s over if we come out on top.” Last season, as Nick referred to, his brother Brian caught fire late in the season to overtake runaway Super Rod points leader and surefire World Champion Steve Furr. To do so, Folk won an incredible 20-consecutive rounds and over four events to close the season.
